The World's Topmost Steel Producing Nations

The World Steel Association (worldsteel) published the list of top ten crude steel producers for the month of September this year.
China continued to remain as the topmost steel producer, with an output of 73.8 million tonnes (Mt). The country’s output witnessed substantial decline by 21.2% from September last year. The country’s cumulative steel output totalled 805.9 Mt in Jan-Sep ’21, marginally higher by 2.0% year-on-year.
The second largest crude steel producer was India with estimated output of 9.5 Mt. The country’s output recorded year-on-year surge by 7.2%. The Indian crude steel production stood at 87.3 Mt through September this year. In third place was Japan, whose output recorded year-on-year surge by 25.6% to total 8.1 Mt during the month of September this year. The cumulative output by Japan was up by 17.9% to total 72.1 Mt during Jan-Sep ’21, worldsteel data said.
The other world countries to feature in the top-ten list include the U.S. (7.3 Mt), Russia (5.9 Mt), South Korea (5.5 Mt), Germany (3.3 Mt), Turkey (3.3 Mt), Brazil (3.1 Mt) and Iran (1.3 Mt).
The steel production by the 64 countries reporting to the association was 144.4 million tonnes (Mt) in September 2021, down by 8.9% compared to September 2020. These 64 countries had accounted for approximately 98% of the total world crude steel production during the previous year.
